A Difference
Changing lives is about warm support and boundless opportunity and Fredericka Manor has been living that mantra for almost a century. One resident, Earl Goris, was so inspired he wrote a book about the community. Goris sums up the Fredericka Manor story in the forward:
Two years of research unearthed a surprising amount of material about this exceptional retirement community that was created with an enlightened philosophy for the dignity of the elderly, a retirement community that is one of the oldest in our country … the best of life is now being lived in retirement communities throughout America, and most especially here at Fredericka Manor.
One particular story still lives on today. Years ago, a 12-year-old boy named Gustavo Romero came to Fredericka Manor to practice playing piano. The Steinway baby grand in Fredericka Manor’s hall was one of the few quality pianos available to this underprivileged child prodigy. In the ensuing years, several residents contributed to a scholarship fund for this young maestro, eventually taking him to the Julliard School of Music in New York City. Today, Gustavo is a world-renowned classical pianist.
Every year, while performing concerts in Southern California, Gustavo gives a private recital for our residents in appreciation for the difference Fredericka Manor has made in his life. |
